WE GOT AN EASTER EGG!

Henrietta, Gertie, & 1 of the Araucana's eggs.

1 of our Araucanas
It is hard to tell in the picture, but they have fuzzy cheeks!
Chickens lay different color eggs depending on what color ear lobes and legs they have.
The Aracuanas (known as Easter egg chickens) have dark green legs and dark lobes.

This is what we found in the chicken house yesterday- a blue/green egg along with the usual white and brown eggs. We are not sure which of the Araucanas laid it because they look exactly alike (I like to call them Thing 1 and Thing 2!) and we haven't seen them in the nest. You can see in the picture that the brown egg is biggest because that chicken has been laying the longest. The blue/green is smaller and pointer. The egg shapes changes as the chicken becomes an expert layer!

AND THOSE ARE YOUR CHICKEN FACTS FOR THE DAY!

That is so interesting. I knew eggs came in brown and white but I had no idea that they could be blue/green (other than robin's eggs). I also did not know that they change shapes, etc. according to how long the hen has been laying eggs. Very interesting, indeed!

Yes, it is very interesting. I too only thought chicken eggs came in white and brown. I am very impressed with all your knowledge about chickens. :-)
Love, Mimi

Atlast, the teen ager has done it,layed a green egg. I know Chris is thrilled! It's almost like a big event. I think one of the first ones is lazy since she hasn't performed yet. Congradulations Chris and Heather love all of you
