HOME RENOVATIONS & BARN SWALLOWS

The Kitchen.
Can you tell Lily has been through here?

This started the snowball of home renovations. In January we finally tore up the floor to put in tile and Chris found a big crack running all the way across the floor. After months of estimates and Chris traveling, we finally got our foundation fixed last week. They had to tear out the carpet in our bedroom, so we decided it was a good time to get new floors and paint our bedroom too.

I think we finally agreed on this one!
We are also getting granite counter tops and slowly changing our appliances out for stainless steal! Why not add something else to our long list of home renovations. Here is our list:
Tile in the kitchen and laundry room.
Paint laundry room, master bedroom, entry and all baseboards and doors.
Granite counter tops and new appliances for the kitchen.
Wood floors for master bedroom, halls and den.
Hopefully we will be finished before 2011!

Our Barn Swallows are back! They have been coming to our front porch for many years now, and although I like the birds, I do not like the bird droppings! Now that Lily is walking around, it makes me crazy trying to keep her away from the poop! We tried to keep them from coming back last year, but then they started building on the wall right above our door! We finally gave in and let them come back.

This is the other side of the ledge. Last year the Barn Swallow couple decided to build on the other side and now we have two nests. This year there is a BS couple and another bird that we thought was a juvenile BS, but now I am thinking it is another kind of bird that took over the other nest.

Here are the two BS. They always come as a pair and I'm not sure if it is the same pair that comes back every year or if it is some of their babies. They usually have two broods a year and they both work together to feed the babies. It is pretty neat to see all the little baby birds when they are learning to fly! I also just found out that they are a protected bird, so I guess they can stay as long as they want!

A picture of the birds at night. The mystery bird is on the left and the BS pair is on the right.

I could have commented on the previous but didn't know. It's nice to know that you are such good people to visit that the birds come back every year. I remember the swallows, I would watch them at dusk as they would come and go. Must have been feeding the babies. Love my birds I'm glad they return, waiting for the finches, they are late this year, we've had funny weather and I guess they are mixed up. Love you all, Gmth

I am so jealous. Your renovations will be real pretty when you are all finished. I know you and your Mom will decorate and it will look real nice.

I think ya'll just have a thing for birds and fowl. :-)

Love, Mimi
