There was a very sweet article today in the Dallas Morning News with this title. It was all about reading to your children. The author talked about reading to her children as soon as she brought them home and now, as teenagers, they have a love of reading. I hope to pass my love of reading onto Lily. I have always loved books! I remember sneaking books under the covers (and reading with my glo worm!) when I was supposed to be sleeping. I still love to read and I have been reading everyday to Lily. We read before naps, while we are playing and at bedtime. She seems to get excited when we look at books and she has started using her pointer finger to touch the pages. The author says it best, "It didn't matter how tired you were, or how many times you had read the same book. A new joy came with each reading, each moment spent together."
Here are a few of Lily & my favorite books for naps and bedtime:

And of course, I had to add a picture of Lily.

Heather, you are so right. I read to mine and it would hypnotize them as long as I read, they would sit so still and listen, they love to read and they are all smart. Lily's granddaddy Frankie, and her dad are smart, and I would like to think I had a hand in it. Gmth
Reading - It's a good thing. :-) I read to all mine too. In fact, I still have some of the books up in the attic. Believe it or not we have an "easy" section in the high school media center where students can check out books to read to their own children (gasp)or their younger siblings.
